This class includes one 1.5 hour class. This class meets in the afternoon from 1 - 2:30pm. Whether through steeping or simmering, there are a few important things to know in order to make the most medicinal herbal tea for you and your family. Learn how different plant parts require different temperatures and which chemicals are best extracted in water. We will brew up herbal teas in this class and sample them as we go!

In this fun and engaging class series you will learn the skills for preparing herbal remedies at home for you and your family. We will focus on the proper techniques for various herbal preparations and discuss the chemistry, traditional and scientific uses, and ethnobotanical aspect of medicinal herbs with a focus on Pacific Northwest herbs. 


Please Join Kelly Ann Nickerson, MS. Herbalist, at the Apothecary Spa for a fun & engaging herbal medicine series. 

Choose between an afternoon (1 - 2:30pm) or evening (5:15 - 6:45pm) class held on the 2nd Monday of each month beginning This class series continue through October 9. 


Class 4. May 8 ~ Herbal Infusions and Decoctions.
Class 5. Jun 12 ~ Herbal Miels and acetracts.
Class 6. Jul 10 ~ Flower Power.
Class 7. Aug 14 ~ Summer Herb Walk. 
Class 8. Sep 11 ~ Herbal Lotion. 
Class 9. Oct 9 ~ Herbal Tinctures.

4. May. Herbal Infusions and Decoctions. Steeping or simmering, there are a few important things to know in order to make the most medicinal herbal tea for you and your family. Learn how different plants parts require different temperatures and which chemicals are best extracted in water. We will brew up herbal teas in this class and sample them as we go!


5. June. Herbal miels and acetracts. Miels (herbal extracts with honey) are delicious and very kid-friendly. Acetracts (herbal extracts with vinegar) are packed full of nutrients and are very versatile in their use. Both herbal miels and acetracts define simple home herbalism. In this class, we will learn how to make honey cough drops, facial toner, and an herbal salad dressing. 

6. July. Flower Power. Have you noticed the beautiful display of flowers during the summer season? Join Kelly Ann to discuss the botany and medicinal uses of 5 local flowers. By the end of this class, you will be inspired to support your health by incorporating these medicinal flowers into your meals and your life. 

7. August. Summer Herb Walk. Interested in learning how to safely identify and utilize plants native to the Pacific Northwest? It's summertime and the plants are enjoying the sun – let's join them! In this class, we will identify 15 wild medicinal plants with a focus on plant families. We will begin class with an herb walk on a nearby trail and end with a discussion in a classroom setting. Moderate trail walking required. Wear stable walking shoes. 

8. September. Herbal Lotion. Using the base of herbal oil and water, learn how to make a luscious herbal lotion. Making lotion at home puts you in control of what you put onto your body and allows you to choose what chemicals go into your body. In this class, you will learn how herbs work through lotion, how to preserve your lotion naturally, and how essential oils can be safely added to your home-made lotion. 

9. October. Herbal Tinctures. A tincture is a convenient and ready-to-use form of herbal medicine that is to be taken internally, in small quantities. Join this class to learn the methods of this procedure and how to create a three different tinctures: to ease an upset stomach, to ward off a sore throat and provide immune support.
